What is cosmetic dentistry?
Nowadays, there’s many ways in which your dentist
can improve the appearance of teeth, giving you a straighter,
whiter, more even smile. Treatments that are designed to improve
the look of teeth are known as cosmetic treatments and include
cosmetic tooth whitening, cosmetic veneers, cosmetic crowns, cosmetic bridges and cosmetic tooth-coloured
fillings. TOP^
What is a veneer?
A veneer is a thin sliver of tooth-coloured porcelain
designed to fit perfectly and discreetly over a front tooth.
They are usually used to ‘smooth over’ cracked
or chipped front teeth, or to close small gaps between the
front teeth or to cover a very discoloured or unsightly front
tooth. TOP^
How much will a veneer cost?
Please talk to your dentist, as the cost of your
veneer will depend on your individual requirements. TOP^
Can I have white fillings?
Yes. We offer cosmetic tooth-coloured fillings as an alternative
to traditional silver or amalgam fillings. Please talk to
your dentist to find out more. If you do decide to opt for
a tooth-coloured filling we’ll be able to ‘match’
your filling to the natural shade of your teeth. TOP^
What can I do if my tooth
is broken?
If you have a tooth that is badly broken or heavily
filled it’s usually possible to repair it using a cosmetic crown.
A crown is effectively a replica of the outside of your tooth
made from materials such as porcelain or gold that fits over
your existing tooth to ‘cap’ it. Please talk to
your dentist to find out more. TOP^
How much will a crown cost?
Please talk to your dentist, as the cost of your
crown will depend on your individual requirements. TOP^
How can I replace missing
teeth?
If you have a missing tooth, or teeth, there’s
several ways we can replace it. You may be able to have a
cosmetic bridge fitted, which means the teeth either side of the missing
tooth are capped, with a fixed false tooth replacing the missing
tooth in the middle. Alternatively, you may opt for a partial
denture or an cosmetic implant. An implant is a titanium rod which
is surgically placed into the jawbone as an ‘anchor’
for fixing dentures or crowns. TOP^
How much will a bridge cost?
Please talk to your dentist to find out more, as
the cost will vary depending on your individual requirements.

Facial Treatment Questions What
is Botulinum Toxin or Botox?
Botulinum Toxin, or Botox as it is commonly known,
is a type of purified protein produced by the Clostridium
botulinum bacterium. It is quite safe and is injected directly
into facial muscles in very tiny amounts during treatment.
TOP^
How does it work?
Botulinum Toxin, or Botox, works by blocking the
transmission of nerve impulses to the facial muscles that
have been injected. This makes the muscles less active and
therefore softens and smoothes the appearance of persistent
lines and wrinkles. TOP^
How many treatments will
I need?
In most cases patients can see a real difference
after one treatment. This is because Botulinum Toxin or Botox
works gradually, smoothing and softening lines and wrinkles
for up to a month. Every face is unique of course and we’ll
advise you on how many treatments you’re likely to need
and how often, depending on the results you’d like to
achieve. TOP^
How long does Botulinum
Toxin or Botox work for?
The effects of Botulinum Toxin or Botox often last up to four
months, depending on the patient. If you decide to stop treatment,
any permanent lines and wrinkles will gradually return. TOP^
Is the treatment painful?
It’s very rare for treatment with Botulinum Toxin or
Botox to be painful. Most patients experience a feeling of
slight discomfort during the treatment itself but that’s
all. We will talk you through what to expect before your first
injection of course, so you’ll be fully prepared prior
to treatment. TOP^
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a type of dermal filler, which suspends
and reverses the signs of ageing, giving skin a 'plumped up',
smooth, radiant appearance. It is similar to collagen, another
popular dermal filler, but unlike the collagen used in dermal
fillers, it is a non-animal product and therefore is hypoallergenic
and does not require testing
prior to treatment. TOP^
What happens during a Restylane
treatment?
Depending on the condition of your skin and the amount
of lines and wrinkles that require smoothing, a Restylane
treatment usually takes around 30-40 minutes. Before we begin
we'll apply a mild anaesthetic cream around the area to be
treated, and then gently inject Restylane where it's needed,
using a very fine needle. The treatment doesn't hurt and you'll
be able to carry on with your day as soon as it's finished.
You'll also be able to apply make-up straight away, if you
wish. TOP^
How long will a Restylane
treatment last?
Each patient is different, and we?ll be able to give you a
more accurate answer if you come to us for advice. As a general
rule however, a Restylane treatment can last up to 12 months,
depending on the condition of your skin and your lifestyle.
